Subject: thanks for being a great teacher!
As a parent, artist and teacher, I can't say enough about how great a teacher The Cartoon
Guy is. My nine year old son is a budding artist and he's been enrolled in other
extra-curricular art classes at museums, schools and institutions. He has always been left
underwhelmed and mostly bored. Finally, he's taken Mr. Mach's class and he now comes home
excited with new methods to use and endless ideas. Mr. Mach has the ability to not only
introduce basic drawing concepts in an interesting way but to also help my son tap into
his creative spirit. I love how he doesn't tell them exactly what to do but he rather
guides each child individually.
Most parents know how difficult it is to teach your own child at times. This is the case
in my home, even though I'm a working artist myself. I know what my son needs to know, I
just don't know how to get it across- we seem to butt heads. I'm so thankful that he's
finally learning the fundamentals of art in a fun environment. In the work Zachary has
brought home from The Cartoon Guy, I recognize all the building blocks that a person needs
to pursue art academically and professionally. This is NOT just another artsy craftsy
class. It has been a truly fun and educational experience for my son.
Thank you CartoonGuy!

'Toons: Rick Mach pens local and national
Moultrie News Wednesday, October 20, 2004
Rick Mach, whose cartoons and
caricatures have entertained people throughout the United States for three decades has
joined the Moultrie News team.
Known locally as "the cartoon guy," Mach has lived in the East
Cooper area for the last two-and-a-half years and says he has found a home here.
"Our newspaper is fortunate to have such a gifted artist," said
Moultrie News Editor Bill Walker. "Rick captures local, state, regional and national
issues with his own brand of humor and, sometimes, acerbic wit. If you want proof, take a
look at today's editorial page."
Mach, who has done standup comedy in
New York, Aspen, Las Vegas and Los Angeles, says his next most famous quote is, "I'm
a Renaissance Man, and I don't even know how to spell it."
Asked to describe his first cartooning success, he quipped, "Slipping
the class bully a cartoon in 3rd Grade homeroom and watching him convulsing as he was
dragged off by a giant belligerent nun."
Since Mach arrived, he has drawn over 3,000 people a year for clients
including Piccolo Spoleto, Kiawah Island Resort, Wild Dunes, Rivertowne Country Club,
Comcast, The SC Aquarium, Nat'l Lincoln-Mercury, MUSC and the cities of Charleston, Mount
Pleasant and the Isle of Palms. He's also done caricatures at fundraising events for local
organizations, churches and synagogues.
Mach's cartoons have appeared in numerous publications, including Gaslight
and Gingerbread, Paumanok, House in the Hamptons, The Shelter Island Reporter,
The Petoskey News Review and Eclectic Eel.
